City of Perth
In 2021, Ethan decided to design a hypothetical municipal brand for the City of Perth, Australia inspired by the one implemented by the City of Sydney.
The City of Perth would launch their first ever municipal branding two years later in 2023, going in a more abstract direction with 'the city of light', but Ethan's prior design echoes similar ideas to the direction the city would end up taking. His design largely references how the city is built on indigenous lands by incorporating aboriginal symbols of water as centers of community gathering. It also prominently features the Black Swans native to the area, namesake of the river at the heart of the city, and which decorate the city's historic crest.
Periscope Robotics
Ethan designed a new logo, profile banner, and business cards for the electrical engineering business, Periscope Robotics. The business was co-founded by two University of Washington alums who specialize in circuit board design and assembly.
The new logo design references circuit boards and electric engineering symbols while also representing the two engineers who founded the business and the letters that form the initials of the company name, P and R.
Ethan again combined electric engineering symbols to form a submarine as a flexible alternate mark for Periscope Robotics to use. While it offers a straight-forward representation of the "Periscope" name, it also honors the businesses' prior logo which was a hand-drawn submarine.
Made in Oregon  - Beaver Logo
Ethan designed this public domain mark commissioned by Portland-based engineer, Dylan Tomberlin.
It is intended to be used by Oregonian crafters and makers to add a sense of community and local pride to their work with an indicator that a majority of their product's labor and manufacturing originated within Oregon State.
The mark needed to be easy to read even at very small scale, with the commissioner citing intention to potentially print it on electronic circuit boards. It features a beaver, the Oregon state animal, holding a tool as if in the act of making.
If you would like to add the logo to your own projects, there is a free download of the files in the Shop.
